Xinhua News Agency, Nanjing, May 29 (Reporter Yang Shaogong) The reporter learned from the Jiangsu Provincial Communications Department on the 29th that in order to ensure that the Yangtze River Jiangsu section will completely ban water transfer operations by the end of 2020, Jiangsu recently introduced a layout plan for the sandstone pier along the river. The gravel pier is used to undertake the transportation of sand and gravel after the water transfer zone is banned.
According to the plan, Jiangsu will use the existing terminal facilities without the addition of the length of the shoreline, and arrange 20 sandstone piers in the planned general berth area and bulk berth area, which can form a passing capacity of 300 million tons. At present, there are 83 gravel berths in the planning area along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province, with a capacity of only over 55 million tons, which requires standard expansion.
Sand and gravel is one of the main cargoes on the Yangtze River. The sandstone water transfer has a serious impact on the Yangtze River flooding, ship navigation, ecological environment protection and drinking water safety in the Yangtze River. At present, Jiangsu has banned the transfer operations within the secondary protection zone of the drinking water source area of the Yangtze River Jiangsu section, and established seven temporary water transfer operation areas and one sea-ship crossing point to complete the standardization construction of the temporary water transfer market. By the end of 2020, the water transfer operation in the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River will be completely banned in accordance with relevant state regulations.
